• 98-01 (maybe some early model 2002's) Will use type 1 systems. Nothing (accept maybe dmax?) would pull pins through obd. It was pretty much eeprom only.  The pin is stored in the 24lc02 soic8 chip.

  • 2002-2003 Is the type 2a system. Many specific tools will work to pull pin (508/608 included). You need a metal key and a unprogrammed key. The pin is stored in the 908 MCU's eeprom. Easy to access in-circuit.

  • 2003-2004 (and some late model 05's like neons) Is the type 2b system. Many specific tools will work to pull pin (508/608 included). You need a metal key and a unprogrammed key to pull pin. The pin is stored in the 908 MCU's eeprom. This one I found it easier to remove mcu and place on adapter then to read in-circuit.

  • 2004-2007 Vans, Pacifica & Liberties use the “Pacifica” system. They are eeprom only for pin retrieval.

  • 2005-2006 SUVS is the start of the can type skims and pretty much the start of the Remote headed keys your used to seeing. Some tools could bypass the pin all together and program keys.

  • 2006+ Old style keyed ignitions are mixed variations of the can type skims. Pins are pretty easy to retrieve with most any tool.

For type 1 and type2's, If your unable to pull a pin or program a key the system may be be locked from too many failed attempts. To unlock, hook up a jump box & leave the ignition on for a minimum of 1 hour. After that you can try again.
